We are pleased to have our students back on campus to begin the new academic year. We are also pleased and proud to begin implenting our new
"Food Safe Campus" guidelines.
Last year we shared with you how our Advisory Committee on Food Allergies assisted our school community to bring STM in accordance with national trends on food allergy management to ensure a campus that is safe and welcoming to all of our students.
Their efforts have led to STM's participation in the
a national program that provides emergency medication for the prevention and treatment of anaphylaxis to be available in areas outside the school clinic. This year we will have extra EpiPens in our cafeteria during all lunch periods.
Another improvement, effective immediately, will be our FoodSafe Campus guidelines. Here is a summary:
- effective this year, NO food items may be present in the classroom areas except those approved by and distributed by STM.
- NO food items (cookies, cupcakes, etc) may be sent to school to celebrate individual student birthdays. We encourage you to mark these occasions by sending in non-edible treats to share. Examples include pencils, stickers, small gift bags, etc. For more ideas on how to go food-free in celebrations check out the following websites: www.allergilicliving.com and www.foodallergy.org.
- Know that you be receiving more information all year long to assist you as we adjust to these needed changeson our campus. Please feel free to stop by or contact the clinic if you need more information.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this change. As a Catholic School we look forward to the opportunity to grow in and to model generosity and compassion for others as we work to make our school safe for all our students.
